Billie Eilish treats audiences to a chilling rendition of Yesterday for Oscars’ In Memoriam tribute

Billie Eilish performed an emotional rendition of The Beatles’ Yesterday on Sunday evening during a night of stellar performances at the 92nd annual Academy Awards.

The Grammy Award winning artist artist struck a somber tone with the cover, which she performed with brother Finneas O’Connell on the piano during the ceremony’s ‘ In Memoriam tribute.

In accordance with the theme the 18-year old wore a beaded black jacket in her signature baggy silhouette as she took to the stage at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.

Tribute: Billie Eilish performed an emotional rendition of The Beatles’ Yesterday on Sunday evening during a night of stellar performances at the 92nd annual Academy Awards

As Billie crooned the classic, faces of stars lost over the last 12-months flashed on screen, among them tragic Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant, who was killed alongside his young daughter in a horrific helicopter crash on January 26th

Other greats like Doris Day, Rutger Hauer, Terry Jones, Rip Torn, John Witherspoon, Agnes Varda, Peter Fonda, John Singleton and Kirk Douglas were also included in the tribute.

While Billie’s rendition of the legendary Beatles track proved to be a high point, hers was on of numerous musical performances on the night – starting with show opener Janelle Monáe.

The versatile singer and actress started the awards show by walking into a homely set before swapping her jacket for a red cardigan and going into her own version of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

She walked into the crowd to serenade Tom Hanks himself, handing the actor her hat, as she wrapped up the theme to Mr. Rogers.

The star also joined forces with the one and only Billy Porter while offering the audience a musical homage to the year’s best films with an Oscar-inspired version of her track Come Alive (The War Of The Roses).

Onstage, she was accompanied by costumed dancers representing some of the year’s favorite films, with outfits evoking blockbusters Hustlers, Midsommar, Us, Joker, JoJo Rabbit, My Name Is Dolemite and more.

But there was an element of controversy as Monáe boldly called out Oscar voters for snubbing female directors during this year’s awards.

While her appearance was well received, it started on a rocky note with the singer suffering a minor wardrobe mishap during a quick costume change.

Elsewhere Eminem shocked the crowd at the Dolby Theatre and viewers at home on Sunday night with his performance of Lose Yourself – 17 years after it won best original song from the movie “8 Mile.”

‘Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity… Thanks for having me @TheAcademy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here,” tweeted the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers.

Billie’s dark onstage look was almost a complete 180 from her red carpet attire.

All eyes were on Eilish as the teen superstar wore head-to-toe Chanel, teaming her white boucle suit with a flight of diamond brooches, sneakers, and gloves bearing the French fashion house’s name.

‘This is so crazy,’ she told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, as she stood with her brother and musical collaborator Finneas.

Asked if she had accepted her Grammys success, she admitted: ‘I… it’s crazy, it’s like, I don’t know what to say to that. It was so surreal, and it’s still surreal. I don’t believe it.’

While Billie’s performance was stirring, she disappointed some fans who were expecting her to debut her eagerly awaited Bond theme for the 25th movie, No Time To Die.

Though the track didn’t come out tonight, brother Finneas previously said their Bond theme ‘comes out real soon’.

Refusing to reveal any exact details about the Oscars show, he simply told Jimmy Fallon on Monday night: ‘I’m so excited.’

The musician, who writes and produces his sister’s hit tracks, would not give any hints as to his plans for the prestigious awards show.

‘It’s one of those. If I say anything then we’re no longer performing at the Oscars.’

However he did address the Bond track: ‘I think I’m allowed to say soon, really soon. It comes out really soon.’

When Fallon pushed for details, Finneas deferred, joking as he pointed to his neck: ‘Dude, one of the agents is in the crowd and I get a hypodermic dart.’
