Bindi Irwin has revealed the surprising origin story behind daughter Grace’s name.
The one-year-old, whose full name is Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, has inherited a family name that dates all the way back to the 18th century according to Bindi.
‘I thought I’d share the story behind our beautiful daughter’s name,’ began the daughter of conservationist Steve Irwin in her Tuesday Instagram post.
‘Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s.’
‘Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad,’ added Bindi.

‘Her last name is Powell just like her incredible Dada and his family.’
She concluded the explanation, ‘I think about how much meaning and love was poured into naming the most important part of our lives, our gorgeous Grace.’
Grace is the daughter of Bindi and American-born Chandler Powell, whom she married in 2020.
Grace’s grandfather Steve passed away in 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a short-tail stingray barb while filming a documentary.
The touching backstory comes after Grace’s uncles Robert Irwin‘s girlfriend Rorie Buckey shared private footage playing in the front yard with Grace.
Robert and Rorie, both 19, looked every inch the soon-to-be parents as they pushed a playful Grace on a tree swing near their Queensland home.
In the endearing Instagram footage on Thursday, Grace looked to be squealing in delight as her hunky uncle pushed her on the bush swing.
‘Special times with Grace,’ Rorie captioned the post, which was instantly ‘loved’ by more than 3000 fans.
The sentimental post had followers swooning over the couple, including his sister Bindi Irwin, who said Grace was lucky to have the loved-up duo.

‘I’m so thankful Grace gets to grow up surrounded by so much love. She’s very lucky to have you and Robert Irwin in her life,’ Bindi wrote, tenderly.
Other followers were equally enamoured with the pair, calling the couple ‘cute’ and ‘adorable’ under the clip.
‘That’s so cute,’ one follower wrote. ‘That’s adorable,’ another added.
‘She’s lucky to have so much love around her,’ yet another wrote.
Robert and Rorie went Instagram official in August, after months of rumours they were dating.
