‘It was really important for me’: Bindi Irwin reveals why she kept her last name after marrying Chandler Powell – and hints her new husband could take hers instead
Bindi Irwin has revealed that she is keeping her last name after marrying Chandler Powell earlier this year.
The 21-year-old told ET this weekend that she wanted to keep the memory of her father, Steve Irwin, alive.
The wildlife warrior said: ‘I’ve kept Bindi Irwin. I think that for me personally, after Dad passed away it was really important for me to feel close to him, and having his last name means so much to me’.

Steve Irwin, famously known as the ‘Crocodile Hunter’, tragically died from a stingray barb to the heart in 2006. He was 44-years-old.
Bindi added that no matter what, she’s ‘an Irwin through and through’.
She went on to hint that Chandler could become an Irwin too, since he was already an honorary one.

She went on to hint that Chandler could become an Irwin too: ‘Chandler has become an Irwin now. It has become a part of me. Everyone has their own ideas, but the nice thing is that it’s 2020 now, anything works!’ she said

Bindi surprised fans when she wed long-time beau Chandler at a secret ceremony at Australia Zoo on March 25.
In the couple’s Animal Planet TV wedding special, Bindi revealed the exact moment she knew Chandler, 23, was The One.

Bindi said she instantly knew the American wakeboarder was her future husband when he showed an interest in her family’s legacy.
The Australia Zoo owner said on camera: ‘For me, I knew that Chandler was The One when I watched him jump into our biggest crocodile pond. I watched him and I went, ‘Yep that’s it. I’m going to marry this man, it’s official”.
Bindi and Chandler got engaged at Australia Zoo in Queensland in July last year, on what was her 21st birthday. They began dating in 2015.
