The abuse directed at Bellingham came in the last game for Dortmund before the international break.

He has been included in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers next week, but regional travel restrictions in Germany due to coronavirus are likely to stop him from participating.

Southgate said: ‘We don’t know [what part Bellingham could play next week]. We’ve left him in the squad. At this moment in time it looks as though we won’t be able to take him.

‘The quarantine rules in Germany looked like they’ll rule him out. But, as we’re seeing, those rules can change so quickly and while we’re still investigating what’s possible we wanted to name him in the squad.

Bellingham made his Three Lions debut back in November, becoming the third-youngest senior Three Lions star as a result.

Dortmund’s draw against struggling Cologne meanwhile was another blow to their Champions League hopes, as they now sit four points behind Eintracht Frankfurt in fourth and some 18 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
