Borussia Dortmund ‘would rather let Jadon Sancho leave this summer than Erling Haaland’… but fear the striker’s love of the Champions League will see him ask to be sold if they don’t qualify as Chelsea lead pack of interested clubs

  • Borussia Dortmund are set to be handed a huge transfer headache this summer
  • Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland are long-term targets for several elite clubs
  • Dortmund are reportedly more willing to let winger Sancho leave this summer
  • But ace Haaland may be the one to exit, however, due to his lofty expectations

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly more willing to let Jadon Sancho leave the club this summer rather than team-mate Erling Haaland – but have been dealt a dilemma over the star striker’s lofty ambitions.

Haaland, 20, extended his fine scoring form this season with a double in the Champions League last-16 first leg win at Sevilla, but Dortmund are embroiled in a race to qualify for the competition again due to their poor league form.

Bild have now claimed that, due to Haaland’s love for the elite competition, the ace may ask to leave should Dortmund fall short of his expectations.

Borussia Dortmund hold concerns over ace Erling Haaland’s Champions League aspirations

The Bundesliga giants have earned just one victory from their last six league fixtures, leaving them trailing six points behind fourth spot.

Haaland’s goalscoring heroics have kept the club’s hopes of reaching the Champions League for the next campaign alive, but the same report says that a ‘European meltdown’ may be triggered over the coming months.

The former RB Salzburg frontman has made no secret of the fact he relishes playing in the competition and insisted his expectation is that Dortmund qualify ‘every year’.

His brace in Seville took his tally in Europe to 18 goals in 13 games, and he also leads the list of top goal scorers this season with eight to his name.

Dortmund are unsurprisingly unwilling to offload Haaland, the report adds, but may have their hand forced depending on the happiness of the player.

Chelsea are believed to be one of the clubs poised to swoop in the event that Haaland does ask for an exit.

Sportsmail reported earlier this month that, after Thomas Tuchel’s arrival, the coach will be backed with a new centre forward targeted.

It is understood Chelsea’s recruitment team admire Dortmund sensation Haaland.

Sancho, a long-time target of Manchester United, appears the more likely sale, however.

The Old Trafford giants failed in their pursuit of the England international, 20, during the summer, but have been widely tipped to re-ignite their interest at the end of the season.

United were unwilling to match Dortmund’s £108million price tag – although reports earlier this month suggested that the club will now accept £88m instead.
