Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers admitted he would be hurting ‘for a few days’ after his side came within 14 minutes of a top-four finish, only to stumble at the end.

The players paraded the FA Cup after the game to the home fans – back for the first time since March 2020 – and bid farewell to Premier League-winning captain Wes Morgan, who is retiring, yet it was a bittersweet end to an historic season.

Rodgers gave strong words of commitment to the club, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy known to admire Rodgers as he seeks a new manager.

‘There are no worries about myself,’ said Rodgers.

‘I love it here at Leicester, even more so now that we’ve just missed out. It motivates me even more to be here and try to push the club to that top level.

‘We need to bring in players who have won something and competed at the top end with their teams.’

Meanwhile, Ryan Mason paid tribute to Harry Kane after the England captain marked what may be his last game for Tottenham by winning the Golden Boot and Playmaker (most assists) awards.

Kane wants to leave Spurs to win major trophies and he thwarted Leicester’s attempts to qualify for the Champions League.

This was Kane’s third Golden Boot, and he also set up the third for Gareth Bale as Spurs scored three times in the last 15 minutes. ‘Harry has been the best player in the League – his statistics say it all,’ said Spurs interim boss Mason.

‘I am very pleased he has another Golden Boot. I feel very honoured to have played with him and we had some amazing experiences together, coming through the ranks.

‘I’ve been fortunate in these past five weeks to have coached him and he turned up again today. He scored important goals in important moments and showed moments of brilliance.’
