Bride-to-be is mocked for accepting her fiance’s Elf on the shelf wedding proposal

Bride-to-be is mocked for accepting an Elf on the Shelf proposal with critics asking why her fiancé wasn’t ‘man enough’ to pop the question himself

  • Bride-to-be’s marriage proposal was shared by a Canada-based Facebook user
  • Members of a ring shaming group vented disgust over the ring and proposal
  • Many said that using an Elf On The Shelf doll to propose is ‘tacky’

Elf on the Shelf is usually employed to keep children out of mischief in the run up to Christmas, but one man decided to put the character to a more romantic use by incorporating him in a proposal.

His bride-to-be then proudly shared a picture of the Elf clutching her engagement ring to Snapchat, but it was widely mocked when it was posted to the Facebook group, That’s It, I’m Proposal Shaming, by a Canadian user.

The group that boasts more than 12,000 members who enjoy critiquing marriage proposals from around the world, were quick to label the proposal as ‘tacky’ and childish.

Meanwhile, another asked why the unnamed fiancé was not man enough to do the job of proposing himself.

Members of a Facebook group slammed a bride-to-be’s engagement ring and Elf On The Shelf proposal (pictured) as ‘tacky’

The original poster simply captioned the photo: ‘Uggggh lol’, and commenters were quick to weigh in.

‘When you’re not man enough to propose yourself, you have a stupid felt figurine do it for you? No thanks,’ wrote one.

Another said: ‘Hate the ring. And who proposes with both the engagement ring and the wedding band? I also really despise Elf On The Shelf, their faces annoy me. Honestly hate this whole proposal – I think it’s tacky’

A third added: ‘Ewww to the Elf and eww to the heart ring. Is this proposal to a kid? Gross.’

A flood of comments came from those who thought it was inappropriate to propose using an Elf On The Shelf figurine

Others were less impressed by the choice of ring and questioned why the woman’s fiancé opted for a heart shaped jewel.

One person wrote: ‘It’s a heart-shaped halo. The Elf On The Shelf should toss it on the nearest yule log and set it ablaze.’

Another said: ‘I told my boyfriend never, I mean NEVER get me heart shaped anything.’

A third added: ‘OH NO HEART SHAPED RING. I’M PUKING’

‘Why do men think we like heart-shaped jewelry?’, asked a fourth.

Others were unimpressed by the choice of ring and agreed they wouldn't want to wear heart shaped jewelry
