The trailer showed friends Penelope (Nicola) and Colin (Luke) sharing some close moments as they cheekily smiled at each other and gaze at each other intensely.

One still from the series also saw Colin gazing longingly and smiling into the distance, appearing distracted as his family stood behind him.

Penelope was also shown looking concerned as she sat by her window and looked at the window while deep in thought, potentially hinting at more drama to come.

The trailer gave fans a short insight into some of the twists ahead for series three, which will no doubt bring its usual dose of steamy romances and dramas.

In the clip, Penelope was seen asking at a social event: ‘Have you seen the Bridgertons?’ as she looked around for the family.

Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) was then seen telling her daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd) ‘I couldn’t agree more,’ while Eloise (Claudia Jessie) looked disgruntled, potentially hinting at another plan being launched by the family.

The return of anonymous gossip Lady Whistledown was also confirmed, after Penelope’s backstory into becoming the writer was explored in season two.

Colin becomes desperate to mend his relationship with Penelope and offers to help her build her confidence to find a husband.

When his lessons start to pay off for her, Colin must make a decision whether his feelings are friendly or something more.

According to the synopsis: ‘Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.’

As well as a whole host of familiar faces returning, the Shondaland production will also see Daniel Francis, Sam Phillips, and James Phoon join the cast this season.

Francis will play Marcus Anderson, a charismatic presence who attracts the notice of certain matriarchs in the ton and annoyance from others.

Phillips will portray Lord Debling, a genial lord with unusual interests who has wealth and a noble title to back up his eccentricities and a long line of young romantic interests.
