Bruno Fernandes left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘frustrated’ in Manchester United’s victory over Everton

Bruno Fernandes left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘frustrated’ in Manchester United’s victory over Everton despite scoring twice and setting up their third goal as manager moans at midfielder’s positioning

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he was left ‘frustrated’ by Bruno Fernandes‘s performance against Everton despite the midfielder bagging two goals at Goodison Park.

Manchester United went into Saturday’s clash with Carlo Ancelotti’s side in need of a result, having suffered back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir as pressure mounted on Solskjaer.

And Fernandes, a £68m signing from Sporting Lisbon last January, stepped up to deliver for the United boss, bagging two first half strikes before laying on an assist for Edinson Cavani to seal a 3-1 win.

Despite the Portuguese returning to Manchester with the man of the match award, Solskjaer revealed that an area of Fernandes’s game did not please him and called for improvement.

‘Great performance. Of course leading the boys, there’s desire and determination. He’s everywhere on the pitch!’ he told MUTV.

‘Sometimes that frustrates me, because sometimes there’s passes being played where he should have been and he’s not there.

‘But you know when you’ve got someone who drives them on like this, of course you’re very happy.’

The win in Merseyside moves United up to 14th ahead of the remaining Premier League fixtures this weekend, with hopes high that the Red Devils have turned a corner.

United skipper Harry Maguire lauded the efforts of his Portuguese team-mate, praising the midfielder for responding to criticism of his display in Turkey in midweek.

‘Bruno was excellent today,’ the England international said. ‘He came under a little bit of stick on Wednesday night.

‘But he’s a big character, he’s a big leader, and he’s reacted brilliantly. And that’s only what he does.

‘He does his talking on the pitch and I’m delighted that he’s got a couple of goals – or whatever you want to call it, a goal and an assist. But he was brilliant out there and helped us get the victory.’
