Buckingham Palace and Downing Street are among Brits who signed-up to People’s Postcode Lottery

Do the King and PM play the People’s Postcode Lottery? How Buckingham Palace and Downing Street are among the locations where Brits have signed-up to win a slice of multi-million pound jackpot

  • Bosses discovered players in Balmoral, Windsor Castle and Kensington Palace
  • Addresses of Houses of Parliament and Chequers were also signed up to lottery

If you’ve got an address like Buckingham Palace or Downing Street, you might think your luck was already in.

But this week bosses at the People’s Postcode Lottery were stunned to discover it has players in these very high places – and not just the royal residence and the Prime Minister’s London home either!

Almost all of Britain’s poshest addresses have signed up to take part in the hope of striking it lucky and winning a slice of the multi-million-pound jackpot.

It seems that politicos at the Houses of Parliament and Chequers, the PM’s country residence, are feeling the pinch like the rest of us nowadays and have signed up to take part in the monthly draw.

And His Majesty’s households don’t want to be left out in the cold either, with players at Balmoral, Windsor Castle and Kensington Palace deciding to get in on the action too.

While none of these posh postcodes have yet hit the big jackpot, they’ve all won smaller cash prizes dozens of times over the past five years – including just last month.

Yesterday the People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Jeff Brazier said: ‘I know the palace is nicknamed Buck House but in future they might be calling it Bucks House.

‘I’ve delivered thousands of winning cheques all over Britain, but now I know they’re playing at the Palace I’ll get the white gloves out in case we get the chance for the most famous door knock of all time.’

People’s Postcode Lottery workers were going through a list of their players’ addresses when they were shocked to see some of the UK’s most famous and powerful addresses pop up.

‘We didn’t honestly expect to see Buckingham Palace on this list,’ admitted one.

So it’s perhaps no surprise that they’ve chosen to launch their newest game on Coronation Day. With Millionaire Street, one lucky postcode will get to share in a massive £1m jackpot every single week.

The popular People’s Postcode Lottery, which was launched in Britain in 2005, works a little differently to most lotteries.

Instead of entering every week by choosing their own numbers, players simply subscribe and pay £12 a month, and their postcode goes into a monthly draw.

If theirs is selected, everyone in that postcode who plays gets to share in the winnings which in May will be a staggering £19 million.

Good causes also benefit with a third of the ticket price going to charities – so far more than a billion pounds has been donated to organisations such as Barnardo’s, the Alzheimer’s Society and NSPCC.

So far more than 70 per cent of British postcodes are playing and 82 per cent of them won a prize last year.
