Carlisle United player Joe Riley was left less than impressed on Tuesday night when he was bizarrely presented with a takeaway chicken korma as his man-of-the-match award.

The defender was named as Carlisle’s player of the match in their 2-1 defeat against promotion-chasing rivals Forest Green Rovers, and was given a rather unusual prize.

Instead of a plaque or a bottle champagne, Riley was rewarded with a chicken korma from a local takeaway restaurant.

It has become a strange tradition at the club to give the man of the match a curry, but Riley’s face was a right picture when he received it.

The hilarious photo of a glum-looking Riley with his curry quickly done the rounds on Twitter and has almost got 20,000 likes.

Other than perhaps a disliking for korma, Riley had good reason to be upset after Carlisle slipped up in their quest for promotion.

The defeat saw them squander second spot with Rovers climbing above them, but Carlisle still have three games in hand over them and leaders Cambridge United.

Aaron Collins’ second-half penalty had given Rovers the lead on Tuesday night but Carlisle pegged them back 12 minutes later through Gime Toure.

Carlisle’s joy was however short-lived as Odin Bailey struck moments later to wrap up the points for the visitors.
