Cesc Fabregas aims dig at PSG after Monaco’s comeback Ligue 1 victory

Cesc Fabregas says Monaco were able to stage brilliant comeback win over PSG as midfielder aims cheeky swipe at French giants claiming their heads ‘were already on Tuesday’ ahead of RB Leipzig Champions League clash

Monaco midfielder Cesc Fabregas has aimed a thinly-veiled dig at Paris Saint-Germain by declaring that they were not fully-focused against his side as they fell to defeat.

Paris Saint-Germain suffered their third league loss of the season on Friday night when they squandered a 2-0 lead at Monaco to lose 3-2.

Kylian Mbappe had given the French giants a 2-0 lead within 37 minutes – a scoreline they held on until the 52nd minute when Kevin Volland pulled one back.

Thirteen minutes later the Monaco forward equalised before Fabregas scored the matchwinning penalty after PSG defender Abdou Diallo was sent off for a foul on Volland.

The result saw second-placed Monaco close the gap on Ligue 1 leaders PSG to four points and Fabregas believes their opponents thought the game was over after taking a two-goal lead.

PSG host RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday night – in a crucial game if they are going to reach the last-16 stage.

Thomas Tuchel’s side currently sit third in that group – three points behind Leipzig and table-toppers Manchester United.

And Fabregas feels that upcoming game took priority for their title rivals, which worked to Monaco’s advantage.

‘We hoped that, if we scored one goal, the pressure would then be on PSG,’ he told Telefoot Chaine.

We knew that they had a difficult match on Tuesday against Leipzig, so we hoped that they would be a bit less aggressive in the second half.

‘For PSG, it is very difficult, they have a lot of players who came back late from their national teams, after that they have the Champions League and if they lose on Tuesday, it will be difficult for them to progress to the knockouts.

‘Their heads were maybe a bit already in Tuesday, so we took advantage of this opportunity.’
