Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman ‘has loan offers from Watford and Middlesbrough’

Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman ‘has loan offers from Watford and Middlesbrough’ with the EFL’s transfer window open until October 16… as he faces being shipped out for a SIXTH time since joining the Blues

  • Chelsea’s forgotten man Baba Rahman could join Watford or Boro on loan
  • The left-back hasn’t played for the Blues since his debut season in 2015-16
  • He has failed to make an impact and has been sent out on loan five times

Chelsea outcast Baba Rahman is attracting interest from Watford and Middlesbrough, who are considering a season long-loan for the left-back, according to reports.

Rahman’s career at Stamford Bridge is turning into a nightmare having been sent out on loan for the last five straight seasons, failing to appear in a senior game for the Blues since the 2015-16 season – when he first joined.

The Ghanaian arrived from Augsburg for £14million and played 23 times in his debut campaign, but ended up being shipped out to Schalke for three consecutive seasons, with recent spells coming at Reims and Mallorca.

While he has enjoyed moments of quality out on loan, he has also suffered with injury problems – struggling to reach full fitness as a result. Last term a crippling knee issue kept him out for virtually the whole season after joining Mallorca.

Incredibly, Rahman still has two years remaining on his current Blues deal, but could be set for a sixth loan spell, with Watford and Middlesbrough both an option, as reported by Goal

He was unable to secure another temporary switch to a European outfit, with most divisions’ transfer window slamming shut this week – but the EFL’s will stay open until October 16, opening the door to a possible Championship move.

Left-back has been a problem area for Chelsea in recent seasons, with Marcus Alonso and Emerson Palmieri – who could also be sent out on loan – unable to make the position their own.

This summer the Blues splash out £50m on Leicester’s Ben Chilwell, adding even more competition for places.

There are a host of other names out of the first team picture, including Victor Moses and Danny Drinkwater, with the club already stacked with quality stars.

In total, Chelsea have spent around £240m in a busy window to give manager Frank Lampard a huge chance of challenging for the title this season, although Rahman appears far away from his first team plans.

Rahman, who has 28 caps for Ghana, is just 26 and has plenty of time to resurrect his career – which began in Germany with Greuther Furth.

He moved to Augsburg in 2014, catching the eye as he made 32 appearances in his first season with the club before being snapped up by the Blues.
