City West Link: The road so confusing it needs a VIDEO to explain how to use it: $4billion Sydney motorway is set to open – but drivers have already been warned about massive delays

Motorists have been urged to prepare for a new motorway with a baker’s dozen of videos demonstrating how to navigate the confusing roads.

The computer-generated clips were produced by Transport for NSW after fears the new underground exchange at the City West Link and Victoria Road intersection in Rozelle, Sydney‘s Inner West, will lead to befuddled drivers causing congestion.

The $4billion project linking the M4 and M8, Anzac Bridge, City West Link, the Iron Cove Link, and the planned Western Harbour Tunnel is expected to open by the end of the year.

More than 100,000 motorists are estimated to use the interchange every day upon opening, with suspected choke points to cause traffic-induced headaches for drivers.

The 13 videos from a driver’s perspective show motorists how to traverse the 16.6 kilometres of new tunnels with instructions appearing at each step.

The videos were made to help motorists to travel the interchange with ‘with confidence from day one’.

NSW Roads Minister, John Graham, said the videos would ‘provide a preview of the new connections’ with the interchange’s upcoming completion.

‘Now is a good time for drivers to start thinking about their journeys and how they may change after the opening of the interchange,’ he said.

‘When a major piece of road infrastructure like Rozelle Interchange opens, we expect drivers will take time to adjust to the new roads and route options, but these videos will give a head start.’

Transport for NSW Coordinator General, Howard Collins, said the videos will ‘help people familiarise themselves with the new routes’.’

Minister Graham warned of impending delays along Victoria Road, City West Link and the new M4 exit ramp during morning peak traffic.

The minister said he ‘looks forward’ to opening the new interchange to the public, describing it as a ‘complex feat of Australian engineering’.

Commuters who have driven through the construction, which began in 2020, are eager to have a consistent route after being frustrated by frequent changes to traffic conditions.

A resident of Leichhardt who drives past the interchange’s construction site told Daily Mail Australia their commute is already hampered by bottlenecks, traffic and confused drivers.

‘I get cut-off by drivers almost every drive to work because they just don’t know where they’re going and jut in at the last moment,’ she said.

‘It’s already confusing, one day I took the same route to work and ended up suburbs in the wrong direction because the lanes changed overnight.’

She noted the videos wouldn’t be of much help because she and her friends will just end up relying on their phone’s directions instead.

‘I just don’t think it’s realistic for me to try and recall a video that I watched earlier when I’m focussed on other drivers who probably didn’t watch it,’ she said.
