‘It’s like getting free money’: Coles launches a discount on Mastercard gift cards for the first time ever – but you’ll have to be quick
- For the first time, Coles has reduced the cost of the Coles Mastercard Gift Cards
- Customers can purchase a $50, $100 or $250 gift card with 10 per cent off
- But the discount is only available from February 10 to 16
- Flybuys points will also be received when a $200 David Jones voucher is bought
Coles has reduced the cost of Mastercard Gift Cards, giving customers around Australia an opportunity to access ‘free money’.
From February 10 to 16 shoppers can purchase a $50, $100 or $250 gift card with 10 per cent off the total amount, including the associated purchase fee.
For instance, shoppers can pick up a $250 Coles Mastercard Gift Card with the $7 purchase fee for only $231.30 with the discount – a saving of $18.70.
This is believed to be the first time in retail history a prepaid Mastercard has been discounted.

The purchase fee of the $50 and $100 Coles Mastercard Gift Cards is $5 per card and there is a limit of five Gift Cards per customer.
Coles General Manager of Non-food Jonathan Torr said it’s the first time Coles has discounted Coles Mastercard Gift Cards.
‘After a summer of spending, we know that our customers are looking for extra value in everything they buy and this is the ultimate way we can help them save on their everyday purchases,’ Jonathan said.

‘It’s very simple to purchase a Coles Mastercard Gift Card and take advantage of this special, you just need to buy it in store,’ Jonathon added.
‘Coles Mastercard Gift Cards are accepted anywhere that accepts Mastercard so the possibilities on what and where customers can save with this special are endless.
‘This offer is incredibly unique because the money customers save by purchasing the gift card this week is in addition to any sales or discounts at the retailer or service provider where the card is being used.’
Shoppers will also receive 4,500 bonus Flybuys points when they purchase a $200 David Jones voucher from Coles, which is the equivalent of $22.50 of value at Coles
There are no purchase fees associated with the David Jones store gift card, but a $7 fee applies with the Coles gift cards
In another first time gift card offer, shoppers will also receive 4,500 bonus Flybuys points when they purchase a $200 David Jones voucher from Coles, which is the equivalent of $22.50 of value at Coles.
For a $100 David Jones voucher, shoppers will receive 2000 bonus Flybuys points, the equivalent of $10 of value at Coles, and for a $50 David Jones voucher, 1000 bonus flybuys points will be collected, the equivalent of $5 at Coles.
There are no purchase fees associated with the David Jones store gift card.
