Comedian Celeste Barber launches scathing tirade against Netflix after her Wellmania series gets axed: ‘This industry is bulls**t’

Celeste Barber has launched a scathing tirade against streaming giant Netflix after it was announced they had axed her comedy series Wellmania after one season.

The comedian, 41, posted a video to Instagram on Tuesday in which she addressed the shock cancellation and did not mince words when assigning blame.

‘Hi friends, Wellmania will not be renewed for another season. Netflix said it’s something about numbers. Sure,’ she began.

‘I thought it smashed it but I don’t understand how it works. Thank you for the love and support around the show. The way it was received was so overwhelming.

‘A lot of you said to me you saw yourself in my character and wanted to see more of her but this industry is kind of bulls**t. So go and watch Friends, but maybe not on Netflix though,’ she sniped.

She also posted a picture of the Wellmania poster next to a Netflix streaming chart, which showed that it was once in the top ten most watched shows on the platform.

Many of Barber’s celebrity friends quickly jumped to her support in the comments section.

‘Take it to another streamer,’ Peter Helliar suggested and Bachelor Girl’s Tania Doko added: ‘Loved it Celeste. Netflix shmetlix’.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Netflix for comment.

In January, it was announced Barber would be expanding her career by starring in the Netflix comedy series Wellmania.

The Sydney-born comedian shared the series trailer and poster to Instagram and told her fans it would be released on March 29.

The series followed Barber’s character Liv as she embarks on a strict ‘wellness journey’ after a trip to the doctor has her being diagnosed with a ‘catastrophic’ bill of health.

The trailer begins by showing The New York-based Liv flying to Australia and then being unable to return home after falling ill, which sees her strive to live healthier.

The show was well received by critics and boasts a staggering 89% fresh rating on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.
