Bundesliga stars ‘may have to play in MASKS… with games STOPPED if they slip off’ in order to resume the 2019-20 season, according to leaked documents in Germany

  • Bundesliga players might have to wear masks as the league plans its return
  • The coronavirus pandemic saw all major leagues be postponed recently
  • Matches will be stopped if a mask slips off and they can’t touch mask with hands
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

Bundesliga players may have to wear masks during matches as the league plans its return to the pitch due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Leaked documents in Germany from the Ministry of Labor have revealed the plans to equip all the players with masks to be worn throughout the entirety of a match. It also suggested that matches will be stopped if the masks ‘slip off’.

Players would also be ordered to not touch the masks with their hands during a match, revealed Spiegel Sports

According to the documents, both players and officials should wear ‘sport-appropriate mouth-nose protection’ that should not slip off during ‘sprints, headers and duels’.

The reports also proposed that each match be stopped ‘every 15 minutes at the latest’ to replace the masks due to ‘increased breathing volume’ that will make them unusable much quicker than usual.

The mask swaps will be labelled as ‘short game breaks’ in which every player should remain 1.5 metres away from each other.

Reports also suggested matches will be stopped every 15 mins for players to change masks

The documents went on to claim any unnecessary contact such as hugging after scoring goals or small wrangling around the ball will not be permitted and the referee can take action.

The list of requirements created by the Ministry of Labor have only been ‘drawn up’ and remain a ‘first draft’ ahead of the leagues scheduled return on May 9.
