Daisy Ridley reveals she won’t take selfies with fans to ‘protect her privacy’

She’s kept herself off social media in a bid to keep her private life just that.

And Daisy Ridley discussed her desire to stay away from the limelight, so much so that she politely declines to take selfies with fans and thinks carefully about going to events if she ‘doesn’t feel great.’

The Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker star, 27, spoke candidly to Radio Times on Thursday about how she reacts to avid fans, and explained: ‘I usually say: “I’m really sorry – not today.”

‘Because I’m not a big photo taker, and I don’t want everyone to immediately know where I am.

‘I know people share [their selfies] immediately, so I’m very aware of privacy in that way,’ she added. With kids, they’re not going to put it up somewhere straightaway.’

The actress, who plays Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, added that she will ‘hide [herself] away at home’ if she needs to take care of her mental health, as she doesn’t do things she doesn’t want to do.

Giving an example of when she had tickets to a Cirque du Soleil show, she said of her decision not to go: ‘I was like, “Even though people aren’t going to look at me, if anyone does, I’m not in the right frame of mind to deal with that.”

‘So I didn’t go. It’s a shame, but sometimes you have to listen to what your body is telling you.’

Her Star Wars co-star John Boyega also spoke with the publication, and said he was inspired to drop out of Greenwich University to pursue a hands-on career in acting after seeing Johnny Depp film Pirates Of The Caribbean on his campus.

‘He was on a carriage with two horses, meanwhile I’m in a boring lecture,’ he said, looking back on the moment. ‘I saw him and knew that’s what I wanted to do. I remember thinking I’m going downstairs and I’m never going back.’

While, when asked if it matters whether a film is cast colour-blind, he added: ‘It’s just making sure it’s not only one side that gets the content. 

‘So, you can go on Netflix and if you want to watch something that’s more race-conscious you have that option, and if you want to watch something that is more open you have that option, too – everyone just wants the buffet.’

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is set to be released on December 19 in the UK, and on December 20 in the US.
