Real Madrid are thought to be the front-runners for his signature and the fact that he will be a free agent can only help their cause given the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on finances.

Alaba has been integral to Bayern’s success over the last decade, racking up 411 appearances for the club.

He has won nine Bundesliga titles and lifted the Champions League trophy twice in that time.
