He was accused of pretending to cook the family’s Christmas dinner as a chef was caught on camera in the background as he carved the turkey.

But on Friday, David Beckham, 44, took to Instagram to demonstrate his impressive culinary skills as he made steamed dumplings to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The football star shared a professionally-made video of himself creating the popular dish, and showed off his knowledge of Mandarin as he wished his followers a Happy New Year.

Chef Beckham! On Friday, David Beckham, 44, took to Instagram to demonstrate his impressive culinary skills as he made steamed dumplings to celebrate Chinese New Year

The video began with the footballer picking up small round pancake skins and then placed pre-prepared filling in the centre of each with a teaspoon.

David then moistened the edges with water, before carefully folding the dough in half and pinching the sides together with his fingers.

At this point the father-of-four stood back looking fairly impressed with his handiwork, before placing his dumplings into a traditional circular bamboo basket and onto a pan.

Finally, the sports star placed the cooked dumplings into a large white bowl and decorated his creation with cucumber slices.

His culinary video comes a month after fans posited that he may have pretended to cook his family’s lavish Christmas dinner, after a chef was spotted in the background.

The football star, could be seen proudly carving the bird in a video posted by wife Victoria but was called out by one follower who joked that the chef must have noticed David was ‘doing it wrong.’

Of course David and Victoria are no stranger to having their meals cooked by private chefs, with the fashion designer admitting in the past that she is a ‘hopeless cook.’

In the video, David appeared to display the results of hours of hard work in the kitchen as he carved the bronzed turkey.

But after Victoria shared the post, one fan took to Twitter to point out that they could see two chefs in the background, with one in the kitchen still making food.

Victoria and David are no stranger to documenting their lavish lifestyle, and  the designer has previously said she has a private chef as she’s a ‘hopeless cook.’

In 2013 the star told Vogue Australia: ‘I don’t want people to think I’m moaning. I wake up every morning and think how lucky I am. I’m like a child. I need to know exactly where I’ll be and what I’m going to be doing.

‘Some days are better than others, but right now I feel guilty because I’m working instead of putting Harper to sleep.’
