Dele Alli is named in FIFA’s top 55 players in the world despite falling out of favour at Tottenham

Dele Alli is named in FIFA’s top 55 stars in the world despite not featuring in the league for Tottenham since OCTOBER after falling out of favour… as Bayern Munich dominate the list with eleven players

  • Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli has made FIFA’s list of top 55 players in the world
  • It comes despite the England star falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho
  • Alli has not played in the league since October and nearly left in January
  • Bayern Munich had eleven stars in the list after winning the Champions League

Dele Alli might not have impressed Jose Mourinho much this season, but it seems he still has admirers in the game after he was named in FIFA‘s top 55 players in world.

Alli’s progress in the game has taken a nose dive after falling out of favour at Tottenham this season, having failed to play a Premier League game since October and being forced to settle for game time in cup competitions.

He has been restricted to just three starts overall this campaign, his last of which came in the 4-0 Europa League win against Ludogorets – where he showcased the quality he still possesses with a bright creative display.

But Alli appears to be still highly rated by his fellow players – who voted in FIFA and FIFPro’s award, based on last season.

He was included him in a group that puts him in some esteemed company. Toni Kroos, Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Busquets and Joshua Kimmich were just some of the stars name alongside him, as well as Ngolo Kante and Luka Modric.

Alli was joined by his Spurs team-mates Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, while some of the biggest star names also included Lionel Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The list was dominated by Bayern Munich players after their Champions League triumph in the summer, with eleven players representing the German outfit.

Manuel Neuer was named among the goalkeepers, with centre-backs David Alaba and Jerome Boateng and left-back Alphonso Davies in defence. There were five midfielders from the Bavarian side – Thiago Alcantara, now at Liverpool, Phillipe Coutinho, now back at Barcelona, Leon Goretzka, Kimmich and Thomas Muller.

Up front there was Europe’s top scorer Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry.

From those who made the top 55, the players with the most votes will be named in the World XI. That means the top goalkeeper, the top three defenders, top three midfielders and top three forwards.

Alli might have his work cut out to be included in that, but both Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min will fancy their chances after some blistering performances over the last 12 months.

Former MK Dons midfielder Alli emerged as one of the most promising players in English football when he burst onto the scene in his first season at Spurs in 2015-16, raising eyebrows by scoring 10 goals in 46 games under Mauricio Pochettino.

He followed that up with 22 goals in the next campaign as Spurs mounted back-to-back title bids, but since then his levels have dropped off and is struggling to reproduce his best form.

Last season was a slight improvement on 2018-19 as he netted nine times and looked a reinvigorated player when Mourinho first arrived last November, but came close to leaving the club this summer after failing to impress his manager in training.

PSG were on of the clubs heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old, but Spurs blocked the move. He will have rumours swirling around him against when the January transfer window opens with still little improvement in his situation.
