Dwayne expressed that there had been many, ‘critics and cynics betting against me at that time, but Brendan welcomed me with open arms and was very supportive.’

‘I never forget kind people,’ The Rock stated. ‘Now years later, Brendan wins his Oscar for BEST ACTOR in “The Whale” and I went on to become famous for wearing a fanny pack. Congratulations, brother – enjoy your flowers.’

The actor, who was also seen with his Jungle Cruise co-star, Emily Blunt, on the red carpet, wore an eye-catching, gold suit jacket as well as a pair black slacks.

He added a classic white dress shirt underneath along with a black bowtie and sleek black dress shoes. A pink floral brooch was placed on the left lapel of his jacket.

Brendan was also dapper for the festivities, and slipped into a black tuxedo which he also paired with a white dress shirt and black bowtie.

The two pals were seen flashing smiles as they talked backstage near a crowded area at the ceremony that was held at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

At one point, The Whale actor stepped to the side and held out his hand in order to motion towards his two sons that were standing behind him who had accompanied their father to the awards show.

Leland, 16, and Holden, 18, excitedly reached out and shook hands with The Rock as they were introduced to each other.

Dwayne has shown his support for Brendan as he began to garner critical acclaim and recognition for his performance in The Whale.

According to People, viral footage of the George Of The Jungle star receiving a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival filtered through the internet and social media, prompting the former sports star to express his own thoughts on Twitter last year in September.

‘Man this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan,’ he had written in a tweet at the time.

‘He supported me coming into his Mummy Returns franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career. Rooting for all your success brother and congrats to my bud Darren Aronofsky,’ he added, referencing to the director of the drama.

Soon after, Brendan shared kind words about The Rock upon hearing the sweet message he had uploaded on Twitter.

During Variety’s New York Party, the star told the outlet that, ‘I thought that was really nice of him.’

Fraser then revealed that the first time that he had met The Rock actually was not on set of The Mummy Returns, but instead was at ‘the reception’ after the feature was made.

‘We hadn’t met in person before then, actually, although we were fighting onscreen,’ he explained. ‘But every time I ‘worked with him’ he was just a piece of tape on a stick. So it was nice to go, ‘Hey, man. How are ya? We finally meet!’

Brendan humorously stated, ‘I could take him. I could take him — he’s just a piece of tape on a stick!’

The Mummy Returns, which was a sequel to the 1999 film titled, The Mummy, premiered in theaters back in May 2001, and also starred Rachel Weisz and Patricia Velasquez.

The movie turned out to be a success, and garnered a box office draw of $435 million on a budge of $98 million. In 2002, Dwayne starred in The Scorpion King, which was a spin-off based on his character in The Mummy Returns.
