Ed Sheeran and wife go on holiday to take a ‘break’ from music

He recently announced that he had left Instagram for the foreseeable future ‘to see more of the world’.

And Ed Sheeran appeared to be doing exactly that on Friday as he was spotted arriving at Heathrow Airport, London, with wife Cherry Seaborn.

The singer, 28, was seen saying his goodbyes outside the building to his security guard Kevin Myers, who is affectionately known as ‘security Kev’ by fans and even has his own Instagram, ahead of jetting off to a mystery location.

Ed and Cherry appeared to be travelling light as they were seen wheeling two small black suitcases, a rucksack each and plastic bags on a luggage trolley.

The Shape Of You hitmaker dressed warmly in black joggers, with an orange hoodie and a blue padded jacket, he finished his look with trainers and his signature glasses.

While his wife Cherry, 27, cut a casual figure in red corduroy trousers, with a dark jumper and a denim jacket.

The hockey player teamed the items of clothing with a pair of grey ankle socks tucked over her pants, trainers and two rucksacks.  

Cherry appeared to go make-up free as she styled her blonde locks into a sweptback bun.   

It comes after Ed took to his page on Christmas Eve to announce that he was ‘going on a break to see more of the world’ – put promised he’ll be back.

Ed uploaded a statement for his 32.2 million followers, alongside the caption ‘brb’ [be right back]: ‘Hello all. Gonna go on another break again.

‘The [third album] Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.

‘I’ve been a bit non stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write and read. I’ll be off all social media until it’s time to come back.

‘To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya – and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing, I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to writer about.

‘Lots of love x [sic]’

He also changed his profile picture to the letters ‘BRB’, removing the artwork for his album Divide. 

Ed last announced he was taking a break from Instagram in 2015 at the end of promoting his second album, X, and the corresponding tour. At the time, he famously gave up using his phone altogether as well.

He posted at the time: ‘I’m taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while.

‘I’ve had such an amazing ride over the last five years, but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes, so I’m taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed.’

While he returned to social media, Ed eventually quit Twitter altogether in 2017 – leaving behind 18.9 million followers. His final tweet was in July of that year and his Twitter bio simply now reads: ‘I don’t use this anymore, please follow me on teddysphotos on instagram, lots of love x’

Ed’s decision to step away from Instagram comes after he admitted that he was targeted by trolls for being ‘fat’.

The Take Me Back To London crooner shed four stone, slimming down from 16 stone to 12 stone after people pointed out he had piled on a few pounds, but he believes they only did so because they were feeling ‘insecure’ themselves.

Speaking on the Behind The Medal podcast, he said: ‘I never had insecurities and people pointed them out – your brain starts thinking about them.

‘It all stems from other people’s insecurities. So many people have things they’re insecure about so it makes them feel better to point out someone else’s.

‘Because half the people that would point out that I’m fat are probably fat themselves.’

However, Ed admits he used to eat too much and didn’t exercise enough, leading to his pals nicknaming him ‘Two Dinners Teddy’.

He said: ‘My problem was I’d go to the pub, have bangers and mash, a pie, maybe a pudding and then loads of pints. And then not exercise.

‘My friends used to call me Two Dinners Teddy. On tour, it’s very easy to drink every single day because there’s always someone visiting. I had to make a real effort on the tour.

‘I’m 12 stone now. I started running. I’ve got into cycling as well.’

He also admitted that one of the reasons he wasn’t in his first three or four music videos was because he didn’t have six packs like his One Direction pals and the likes of Justin Bieber.

He added: ‘I wasn’t in my first three or four videos. I was the same sort of age as the One Direction boys and Justin Bieber and all these people who had six-packs and I was kind of like, “Oh, should I look like this?”‘

However, Ed has appeared in a number of music videos since then, including one alongside his wife Cherry Seaborn for his latest single Put It All On Me, which features Ella Mai.

The footage was filmed in their London apartment and it features a string of couples including Ed and Cherry, with the caption under their segment reading: ‘Back in high school, Ed and Cherry were crushing hard. They made out at the castle on the hill. A few years ago they reconnected, there were fireworks. They married in January 2019.’
