EE and BT Sport have announced a ‘game-changing’ new way for armchair fans to soak up live action, which they hope will help fill the void while supporters are locked out of stadiums.

Their ‘Match Day Experience’ will launch later this month and aims to provide a ‘revolutionary new way to watch sport’ during the coronavirus shutdown.

Using 5G and Augmented Reality technology, fans can build a split-screen to see and chat with friends while watching the game together.

They will also be able to use a 360-degree camera to watch from various points ‘inside’ the stadium on matchday.

On their app, supporters can follow the action away from traditional broadcast camera positions and even zoom in on areas around the ground.

Another new feature will see pre-and-in-game statistics being beamed on to their screen, such as team line-ups and formations.

The ‘Stadium Experience’, meanwhile, will allow fans to step through an AR doorway into hidden areas of Premier League grounds, including dressing rooms and dugouts, while ‘Manager Mode’ will provide live graphics on screen such as a mini-pitch map, player names and running speeds in real time.

The new venture will launch with West Ham’s Premier League clash against Manchester City on October 24 before expanding into the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup and even Premiership rugby.
