‘We needed to clear out the existing garden bed and rubbish from the area. The fences needed to be removed and replaced and lots of heavy rocks taken away,’ she explained.

‘So grateful to my hubby and dear old dad for helping me to create this space. I know many hours will be spent relaxing and entertaining here for years to come.’

The family were able to save a fortune just by doing the DIY job themselves.

Once the timber decking was assembled, along with sandstone paving, they applied a long lasting, water based finish to the base to protect from the destructive effects of weathering and ageing.

From there, Eleesha styled the space with $19.99 solar lights, a $757 cast iron pizza oven, a giant bird of paradise plant, a $159 rattan resort coffee table and a rattan chairs.

‘They say a change is as good as a holiday, and we would have to agree,’ she said.

‘Feels like a completely different time zone. We were trying to create a very Mediterranean meets coastal vibe by using sandstone paving, palm trees, white rock, a pizza oven area and of course, hanging chair and day bed.

‘What feels more like “relaxing in the Mediterranean” then laying on a day bed under the palm trees while cooking up an outdoor feast.

‘This portable pizza oven would have to be a favourite purchase for this space. With all the incredible benefits of cooking in a pizza oven.’

She is among 60 per cent of Australians who will be more inclined to holiday locally this summer following a turbulent and unexpected year, a new Bunnings research has found.

Ryan Baker, Bunnings’ general manager of operations, said the research found that Australians are now more open to a staycation and are becoming increasingly conscious of spending money locally in support of their local economy amid covid.

‘Spending more time in our homes than ever before, we have been looking for ways to create a living space we can enjoy spending lots of time in, with a third of us having already made improvements to our outdoor areas with many more planning to make changes,’ he said.

‘Outdoor living and greenlife products have been popular, in particular outdoor furniture, playgrounds, barbecues, outdoor lighting and raised garden beds, as Australians make these investments to create a more enjoyable backyard space.’

More than 1,000 shoppers were surveyed in October for the research.
