England risk losing out to Russia over the right to host Dublin’s Euro 2020 games after Ireland’s FA failed to guarantee it could welcome fans with UEFA set to make decision on Monday

England is in a showdown with Russia for extra Euro 2020 games, with UEFA set to announce on Monday that Dublin will not be a host city for the delayed European Championships this summer.

The Football Association of Ireland has told UEFA that their Government cannot guarantee fans at the three group games and round of 16 game in June, which will be confirmed at the UEFA executive committee meeting on Monday.

UEFA will have to find alternative venues for the group games between Poland v Slovakia, Sweden v Slovakia and Sweden v Poland as well as the last 16 game, which could involve England or Scotland if they win Group D.

Tottenham are hopeful of being allocated some games and UEFA are keen to use their new stadium.

However, the governing body of European football is also conscious that England and Scotland are already hosting 11 games in the tournament.

Talks at the weekend focused on St Petersburg being allocated some of the fixtures, with other mainland European venues also being considered but sources say there is a possibility that Tottenham will also receive a group game.
