Father and son spend two weeks not knowing they have a $1million Lotto ticket in their pockets

  • Brisbane father and son duo combine to pick the correct Lotto numbers
  • But they forgot to check their ticket for two weeks after the draw was taken
  • They were sole division one winners and plan to buy a house together

A father and son forgot to check their lottery ticket for two weeks leaving them unaware they had won a million dollars.

The father, from Brisbane, finally checked the numbers and discovered they had a division one winning Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto ticket for the week – worth $1million.

It was also the only winning ticket for the week, meaning they could share the entire  $1million prize together.

A father and son combined to pick the winning division one numbers – then forgot to check their ticket for two weeks

‘All we could say was “wow”,’ the son said.

‘I think we were both in shock, we were speechless.’

They plan to use their winnings to buy a house together.

‘This will help us so much, especially for my future. It’s really going to set me up.’

The man explained his father regularly buys lottery tickets – and that he ‘sometimes chips in’.

‘Dad got the ticket for both of us and after the draw he thought we’d won some kind of prize. But he’d forgotten to check the ticket properly until just now.’

The winning numbers were 29, 30, 17, 37, 6 and 5, with the supplementary numbers 18 and 8.

The winning ticket was sold at Nextra Newsagency Cleveland, in Redlands City, east of Brisbane.

The agency was contacted and told it had sold a division one winning ticket on March 25 – but nobody came forward to claim it – until the father and son walked back in.

‘It was so exciting when they came and told us they were the winners we’d be searching for,’ said the news agency manager Jenny Adam.

‘It’s so nice to see this prize go to our local customers.
