From the runway to your living room: How to give your home a makeover using fashion’s biggest trends

From the runway to your living room: How to give your home a makeover using fashion’s biggest trends

Fancy giving your home a revamp but not sure where to start?

Well, just as you would with your wardrobe, look to the catwalks for inspiration.

Incorporating the latest prints from the runways into the rooms of your house is easy. And it’s an affordable way to do a quick interiors rework.

So check out the three trends that have crossed over to the world of homeware and make your house as fashionable as your look.

Safari Style

This look has two elements.

First up, there’s the classic ‘going on a safari’ look.

You know the kind of thing; khaki jackets, lots of utilitarian pockets, buttons and matching trousers or shorts.

It was a style brought up to date to great effect in both Chanel and Prada’s Cruise 2020 collections.

And bringing neutrals into your home is easy as this versatile shade goes with everything, so add in touches of beige using your soft furnishings. Think fluffy rugs and throws and comfy cushions.

The second part of the safari chic trend is, of course, animal motifs and prints.

Leopard spots are a perennial look but designer labels have expanded their offering to include whole prints or images of wildlife (see Christian Dior and Gucci below) as well as bold and beautiful giraffe prints as seen at Mary Katrantzou AW19.

And bringing animals into your home style, whether they’re from the rainforests or great plains, couldn’t be easier.

An animal print chair will make a chic focal point in any space, or simply update your kitchenware with mugs and plates featuring your favourite mammals.

And you’ll find zebra and tiger stripes on everything from bed linen to bathroom towels. Wild!

Tropical Touch

With summer here and holidays on the horizon it’s no wonder we’re all embracing a touch of the tropical.

The catwalks were blooming with exotic flowers so let your home do the same.

Leonard Paris, Richard Quinn and Paul & Joe all sent palm trees, tropical vistas and bold botanical prints down their SS19 runways, so follow their lead for your interiors makeover.

One of the most effective ways to bring the outside in is to add lots of lush greenery to your home.

But there’s also lots of palm print wallpaper, cushions and bed linen out there that’ll make your house feel like a holiday.

Space Age Shine

Metallics are always in style so let’s all go back to the future with shiny silver as seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim and Isabel Marant.

It’s all very space age sci-fi and with just an element here and there, you can add a glamorous retro vibe to your home.

But it’s not just silver that’s got us feeling futuristic.

Metallics came in magenta pink at Rodarte, gold at Akris and rose at Isabel Marant.

So adding a sparkle or sheen to your interiors doesn’t mean sticking to one shade either.

Think about using brass planters, elegant side tables, display cases and photo frames in each of your entertaining spaces for an instant update.
