Generous Aussie pays off all Christmas lay-by items at a popular toy store

A Good Samaritan has paid off $12,500 in remaining lay-by fees at his local toy store  leaving grateful customers in tears.

The local businessman contacted Bunbury Toyworld, in Western Australia, to ask the owners if he could pay off all the toys currently on lay-by.

He told brothers Rick and Harvey Baker, who run the family business, that he had had a ‘good year’ and wanted to pass on some Christmas cheer.

The mystery Secret Santa, who wished to stay anonymous, paid off every single toy on lay-by within the hour – leaving the Baker brothers shocked.

One man was left in tears after he discovered his toy had been paid off in full.

He told Rick he had recently lost his job and was experiencing some financial stress.

‘I tapped Harvey. I said get his lay-by. Harvey ran out the, back. We said, ‘We’ve had a Secret Santa come through and pay all our lay buys out this year’,’ he told Sunrise.

‘He was a bit lost for words. He teared up, it was a beautiful moment.’

Another customer, mother-of-three Rhiannon Williams told NCA NewsWire the stranger’s generosity ‘couldn’t have come at a better time’.

‘I had lost my job few months ago and hadn’t had much luck finding another, so money has been so tight. This generous act means my partner and I can pay bills that were not going to get paid,’ she said.

Ms Williams went to ToyWorld with her daughter Kade, 10 and Addi, nine, to pay the remaining $1,050 for a Star Wars Lego model of the Millennium Falcon.

Her son Jai, 13, has no idea he is receiving the generous gift – or that part of the cost was covered by a mystery Secret Santa.

It isn’t the first time the store has been blessed by a mystery Secret Santa.

In 2021, a different man contacted the store and offered to pay remaining lay-bys.

This time the outstanding amount totalled to over $13,000.
