Sausage rolls to your door! Greggs is set to launch a nationwide delivery service for its pastries after trials with Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat

  • Fans of the pasties will be able to order Greggs straight to their door in 2020
  • Greggs has run trials in cities since 2017, including Newcastle and Birmingham
  • It is ‘very close’ to announcing a partnership with Uber Eats, Deliveroo or Just Eat

Greggs has had a whirlwind of a year following the roll-out of its vegan sausage roll and steak beak, and now the bakery is set to launch a nationwide delivery service.

Fans of the pasties and cakes will be able to order Greggs goods straight to their door after a number of successful trials with Deliveroo, Just Eat and UberEats.

The high street chain has been testing out the deliveries in various UK cities since 2017, including Newcastle, London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

But Greggs is ‘very close’ to announcing which delivery service it will partner with in 2020, which will roll out nationwide, according to City A.M.

It has also announced it will extend its opening hours, meaning hungry pastry lovers can get their fix until 9pm.

It comes after the biggest bakery chain in Britain announced it will pay its staff a bonus of around £300 each, following the success of its vegan range this year.

The bonus boost comes a year after the anticipated launch of Greggs’ vegan sausage roll, which has helped push up sales and extend the chain’s appeal to a new audience.

Chief Executive Roger Whiteside said: ‘I am delighted to announce that we will also be making a special additional payment to all of our colleagues across the business who have worked so hard to deliver this success in what has been a phenomenal year.’

The meat-free pastry snack, which is now being branded as ‘iconic’ by the company, has been followed by other initiatives with the recent launch of a vegan steak bake and a vegan doughnut.

And the company has promised to keep evolving to cater to other chosen diets.

Greggs opened 138 new shops and closed 41 over the year, bringing its total to 2,050 across the UK. It plans to add a further 100 throughout 2020, with sales growing by 13.5 percent
