Mick Schumacher will extend his stay with Haas into a second season after the American-owned team announced an unchanged line-up for 2022.

Schumacher, the son of seven-time world champion Michael, will again be partnered by Russian driver Nikita Mazepin.

Schumacher and Mazepin, both 22, have failed to score a point in their rookie campaigns with Haas this season’s backmarkers.

‘By being part of the Formula One field, I am living my dream,’ said Schumacher, who recorded a best finish of 12th at last month’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

‘The first year together with Haas is very exciting and instructive, and I’m sure I can bring all the experience I’ve gained into the coming year.

‘New technical regulations, the impressive ambition of the entire Haas F1 team and the support of Ferrari – of course I believe this will bring us closer to the field in the 2022 season and we will be able to fight for points.’

Mazepin, who will this weekend take part in his home race at Sochi, said: ‘I’m very excited for next year, the new car and simply just to get the opportunity with Haas and grow together with them. I think we will come out strong next year.’

Haas’ announcement leaves only Alfa Romeo to confirm their driver pairing for next season.

Valtteri Bottas will occupy one of the seats at the Italian team after he was dropped by Mercedes.
