England players have returned to training – but only those who did not start Sunday’s 1-0 win over Croatia were put through their paces before some end-of-session rondos as those in the starting XI focused on recovery. 

Raheem Sterling‘s goal has got the Three Lions off to the ideal start, with the importance of impressing in training even more magnified after the team’s impressive display against Zlatko Dalic’s men.

Dean Henderson was the only non-starter who did not take part in training, with the Manchester United goalkeeper sitting out a session for the second time in a week with a slight niggle.

Harry Kane and John Stones are nursing rib and left ankle issues respectively, but Sky Sports News have revealed that these issues aren’t serious. 

Kalvin Phillips’ man-of-the-match performance would have made Jordan Henderson’s task of forcing himself into the starting XI even tougher as the Liverpool captain continues to work his way towards getting fit enough to start his first match since sustaining a groin injury against Everton on 20 February.

Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw are now not just competing against each other for the left-back berth, but with Kieran Trippier, who was entrusted with the position at Wembley.

Chilwell will want to show that he is worthy of a place on the bench as the Chelsea man was one of three players left out of the squad entirely along with
