Eastenders actress Jessie Wallace has been chased by the taxman over a £70,000 bill after her company failed to pay its return on time.

Wallace, 48, who plays Kat Slater in the long-running soap, faced losing her North London home if the bill went unpaid.

Paperwork shows officials have taken out a charge against her home in case her firm falls behind on its £1,000 a month repayments, The Sun reports.

The bills relate to Thatchers Promotions Limited, which handled the veteran actor’s EastEnders’ salary.

A previous company run by Wallace – Pentacle Alice Ltd – was liquidated in 2017 with the taxman deciding not to pursue her over an outstanding, five-figure bill.

In relation to the tax bill owed by Thatchers Promotion Limited, the firm’s liquidator said: ‘Ms Wallace has to pay £1,000 a month in respect of the directors overdrawn loan account.

‘The balance of the loan is secured by a charge placed on her personal property.

‘Installments were agreed to repay the loan but unfortunately they were not regular and continued chasing was required.

‘Therefore, to secure the debt, I instructed solicitors to place a charge upon her property.’

Sources close to actress say Thatchers Promotions, of which Wallace is the sole director, has been making regular payments and is close to paying off the amount owed.

The source added that they are confident there is now no threat to her London townhouse.

Wallace returned to EastEnders last year following a two-year break from her role amid suggestion she was turning to drink.
