How Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald got ripped off by his mates on his season of Big Brother after they pocketed $70,000 and spent it without him

Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald rose to fame after he appeared on Big Brother back in 2004.

But, on Wednesday the 43-year-old radio presenter revealed that he got ripped off by his mates on his season of the reality show.

Speaking on his radio program Fitzy & Wippa, he said that his friends pocketed $70,000 after selling his iconic Massive Loser Squad (MLS) T-shirts, but by the time he was out of the house that it had dwindled down to $10,000.

Questionable friend: Speaking on his radio program Fitzy & Wippa, Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald revealed that he got ripped off by his mates on his season of Big Brother

‘I took these T-shirts in and as a joke I said to the guy let’s have them trademarked – so we copyrighted MLS,’ he said.

Fitzy then went on to explain that he had no idea his friends were selling them until he was evicted from the house in fourth place.

‘When you get out, they have a psychiatrist that sit down with you first and they go through how you’ve been perceived in the house, it’s like a scrapbook of different newspaper articles of how you’ve been perceived,’ he said.

‘The woman sits me down, she looks at me, she takes a deep breath and she goes “Okay. Your friends have made a lot of money from these T-shirts.” I had no idea!’

He revealed that his mates had been selling the shirts to Dreamworld, but Channel 10 were ‘angry at the time’ because they didn’t have ‘control’ of them.

And, while Fitzy thought he was in for a big pay day when he got home, he revealed that his friends had spent all the money travelling Australia without him.

‘At one stage, my mates had $70,000 in a bank account but when I got out they had $10,000. They had been travelling around Australia on the money!’ Fitzy laughed.

Fitzy’s anecdote comes ahead of the Big Brother finale on Wednesday night which will see all the housemates reunite for a live special.

Remaining housemates, Sophie Budack, Chad Hurst and Daniel Gorringe are now competing for a reduced prize of $234,656, after Kieran Davidson stole more than $15,000 from the winner’s kitty last week.

The contestant with the most public votes will be crowned the winner on Wednesday when the live finale begins at 7:30pm.
