A seemingly innocent real estate ad for a run-down weatherboard cottage has been posted with a sinister-looking twist.

The listing for the three-bedroom-home in Blackwood, south of Adelaide‘s CBD, went up on Monday and featured a creepy element in one of its bedrooms.

An image of an empty room with pastel blue walls and pink carpet showed a little blonde girl peering through the doorway and clutching a teddy bear.

The girl, who was dressed in a nightgown, appeared to stare at the camera from behind the white doorway.

Harcourts Packham sales partner Peter Jeffrey said he’d received a flood of interest about ‘the ghost’.

‘I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries asking if the home comes with the ghost,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I got an inquiry last night and most of it was “what’s the story with the little girl?”.’

The mystery deepened when Mr Jeffrey explained that the family who own the home had lived on the property for 57 years and raised eight girls in the house.

But he revealed the unsettling image was a painting on a door in between two of the bedrooms.

‘It’s actually wallpaper on a sliding door that’s been bolted shut,’ Mr Jeffrey said.

‘One of the daughters put the wallpaper on the door. Apparently, it’s been there for years. It’s actually scraped a bit because it’s a sliding door.’

The ramshackle home also features a carport and two-car garage, two living areas, one shower and two toilets on 825sqm of land.

Mr Jeffrey explained the decaying home would most likely be purchased for development rather than to be lived in.

‘It’s probably more of a knocker-downer than a fixer-upper. We expect it to sell for land value but we’re not sure what the value of the land is at the moment,’ he said.

‘I’d suggest the most value is in the land, rather than restoring the house, but you never know.’

He said the elderly couple who own the house would be retiring to a nursing home.

The home is open for inspections over the next three Saturdays and will be going up for auction on November 28 at 1pm.
