‘Come on, Scouser… get your s*** together and keep winning!’: Israel Adesanya reveals showdown with Liverpool’s Darren Till is only fight at middleweight that would excite him after UFC 259 headliner

  • Israel Adesanya is preparing to take on Jan Blachowicz in UFC 259 main event
  • He is stepping up from middleweight to light-heavyweight, taking a risk
  • Middleweight champion has revealed only the Darren Till fight excites him
  • If Till beats Marvin Vettori on April 10 then he is likely to be given title shot

A showdown with Liverpool‘s Darren Till is the only fight Israel Adesanya is interested in at middleweight after UFC 259.

The 185-pound supremo is stepping up to light-heavyweight to face Jan Blachowicz in the main event this weekend.

And a number of paths would open up to him if he is to defeat the Polish powerhouse and become the organisation’s fifth two-weight champion.

Israel Adesanya wants Darren Till to keep winning so he can fight for the middleweight title

Back down at middleweight, where Adesanya has risen to the top in spectacular fashion, only Till excites him.

The 31-year-old told ESPN: ‘To be honest, none of them except Till (excite). I hope he keeps winning just so we can have that fight.

‘He’s just got to win, man. He’s got to get his s**t together and keep winning, Till. Come on, Scouser!’

Adesanya dismantled Paulo Costa in his last title defence and beat Robert Whittaker, the No 1 contender, to secure the belt in fine style back in October 2019.

Till, ranked No 4, is set to face Marvin Vettori, No 5, on April 10 and could well be next in line for a title shot if he wins.

The fan favourite has lost three out of his last four fights although only only one of those was at middleweight in a unanimous decision defeat by Whittaker.

If he can find a way past the 27-year-old Italian then the Adesanya fight could easily be made.
