The Italian football federation opened an investigation Thursday into the spat between Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte and Juventus president Andrea Agnelli.

The pair clashed during Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final match, which ended in a 0-0 draw and allowed Juventus to reach the final 2-1 on aggregate.

Conte, who played for and later coached Juventus, appeared to stick his middle finger up towards Agnelli at half-time.

Reports in Italy say the middle finger gesture by Conte at half-time was directed at Agnelli

On Tuesday night, Juventus president Agnelli (left) got into a heated exchange with Inter manager Conte (right) in which he told his former employee to ‘f*** off and shut up’

Agnelli was then seen at the end of the game vehemently shouting in the direction of Conte, saying ‘f*** off, shut up you a***hole’.

‘Federal prosecutor Giuseppe Chine has opened an investigation into the behavior of the directors and staff of Juventus and Inter during and at the end of the return match of the Italian Cup semifinals,’ the federation said in a brief statement.

The FIGC added that it has already called up fourth official Daniele Chiffi for a hearing.

The relationship between Conte and Agnelli reportedly collapsed in the middle of 2014, when Conte resigned after steering Juventus to the first three of its nine straight Serie A titles in his three years in charge.

Allegri brought Conte back to the club he had captained as a player after a successful spell in Serie B with Siena.

At first, they had grand plans to dominate Italian football but Conte departed in the summer of 2014 after just one day of pre-season training.

Conte went on to manage Chelsea, where he won the Premier League, before returning to his homeland and taking charge of Inter Milan, who are the current Serie A leaders.
