‘He dived and I told him off for screaming… he didn’t do it at our place but he does it here!’: West Ham captain Mark Noble aims gentle dig at former team-mate Jesse Lingard after Man United penalty appeal was turned down
Mark Noble has claimed Jesse Lingard ‘dives and screams’ more at Manchester United than he did at West Ham after the pair were involved in a penalty shout in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie.
Lingard went down in the penalty area during the second-half of the Old Trafford cup match after an apparent tug by Noble, who then argued with the Red Devils midfielder over his attempts to try and win a penalty.
The Man United star has faced former club West Ham twice in the space of a few days following his loan spell at the London Stadium last season, scoring the winner in their 2-1 Premier League win on Sunday before the Hammers got a 1-0 revenge in Wednesday’s cup game.

Noble admitted he is delighted to see Lingard performing so well at Old Trafford after failing to make the grade which sparked last season’s West Ham loan move, but could not protect his former team-mate from allegations of diving on Wednesday.
Speaking about the incident, Noble said: ‘That’s football, he dived and I told him off for screaming. Funnily enough he didn’t really do it at our place but he does it here!
‘We had a laugh on the pitch today, I love Jesse. He’s a great character and I’m so pleased he’s come here and getting his chance.
‘He’s scored some fantastic goals, obviously the one against us was hurtful, he’s a great lad and he deserves everything he gets.’

Manuel Lanzini’s 10th minute goal was enough to separate the sides at Old Trafford and despite United throwing on Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes and registering 27 shots, they could not find an all-important leveller.
The result was a frustrating one for Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is still without a trophy since arriving at the Old Trafford dugout in late 2019 and has blown one of four chances to win a title this season.
West Ham, meanwhile, will be feeling better about themselves after Lingard scored the winner in a 2-1 victory for Manchester United against the Hammers on Sunday, in a game which saw Noble come off the bench to miss a late penalty in east London.

Red Devils boss Solskjaer was incensed that a penalty was not awarded for the pull back by Noble on Lingard as he cut a frustrated figure post-match.
‘I would rather not say too much but it was a penalty again on Jesse Lingard,’ he said.
‘You want to go through but it is a long season, we gave it a good go, can’t fault them for attitude and have big games coming up.
‘It is a long journey all season, we have loads of games and keep on doing what we are doing, trying to get results. We are out of this cup which is not great but we will focus for Saturday.’
