Jo Guest reveals she was left ‘housebound and suicidal’ after devastating battle with Fibromyalgia ruined her modelling career and affected her looks

Former glamour model Jo Guest admits she was left house-bound and suicidal after being struck down with Fibromyalgia, a long-term medical condition that causes severe bloating, exhaustion and constant pain.

The 47-year old was a sought-after Page 3 girl at her peak in the 1990s, but by 20007 she had turned her back on the London party scene, given up drinking and relocated to coastal Bournemouth, where she adopted a healthier lifestyle.

Despite implementing positive changes to her lifestyle, Jo began experiencing extreme bloating, swelling, nausea, muscle pain and tiredness to such an extent that she struggled to wash herself more than once a week.

Speaking to This Morning in 2008, the former model admitted she had been left devastated by the condition, which ultimately derailed her life and affected her looks.

She told Phillip Schofield and Fern Britton: ‘One day I tried to put on my favourite boots and couldn’t zip them up – I realised my calves were swollen. I thought maybe it was down to the change in my lifestyle.

‘At first I thought it was just a virus, but it just wouldn’t stop. I was getting up and being sick all morning and having to spend the afternoon in bed.’

After submitting herself to a battery of tests, Jo admitted her doctors could not pin down the root cause of her illness – despite the symptoms getting progressively worse.

‘When you come out of hospital and you’re told everything’s normal, you should be happy, but I don’t want to be told everything’s normal — I just want to be told what’s wrong with me,’ shed recalled.
