Jurgen Klopp admits he’s losing vocal support in Premier League meetings over five subs debate

‘It feels like I am the only voice on it’: Jurgen Klopp admits he’s losing vocal support in Premier League meetings with clubs moving on from the five subs debate… and jokes that Liverpool can’t even make five with their injuries!

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted it ‘feels like I am on the only voice’ in his bid to reintroduce five substitutions in the Premier League.

The German has fought hard for the rule change after clubs were permitted to use extra subs during the Premier League restart in the summer, but has questioned why that has not been the case this season – with his team picking up a flock of injuries.

His argument has triggered a quabble among managers, with some bosses fighting for relegation claiming it is unfair that those with more resources and stronger depth would be allowed to bring on more of their top stars.

It led to him calling Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder ‘selfish’ as he insisted that all clubs should stick with three subs, and now he believes he is lacking support from his fellow Premier League clubs at meetings over the matter.

‘I’ve said everything about it,’ he told a press conference ahead of his side’s crunch clash against Tottenham.

‘Sometimes it feels like I am the only voice for the [five subs]. Other people think the same. Journalists are not supportive, you just write what we say, that’s the truth.

‘Some clubs can make the decision. At the moment I probably don’t have enough subs to make five subs! It is not my decision. As long as it’s not done I still hope for the players.’
