Jurgen Klopp picks up a yellow card for arguing over penalty decision

Relentless Jurgen Klopp shows he’s never satisfied as he picks up a yellow card for arguing over a penalty which wasn’t given during thumping win over Atalanta… despite his Liverpool side being 5-0 up at the time!

  • Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp showed just how much he fights for his team
  • He picked up a booking following a foul on Curtis Jones due to his protestations
  • Premier League champions were 5-0 up but Klopp challenged official’s decision

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp showed just how much he fights for his team by picking up a booking following a foul on one of his players in their 5-0 win over Atalanta.

Midfielder Curtis Jones was brought down in the penalty area after the Premier League champions had smashed five past the Italian outfit but no foul was given.

Klopp challenged the decision by speaking to the fourth official but it appeared he overstepped the mark with his protestations and was given a yellow card by the referee.

Referee Ovidiu Hațegan went over to Klopp on the touchline to explain the penalty appeal had already been checked by the video assistant referee and showed the Reds boss a yellow card.

Hațegan can be heard, courtesy of pitchside microphones, saying: ‘We already checked it. We already checked it, OK?’

Just like Klopp, Liverpool were relentless in the Champions League tie on Tuesday evening, scoring five goals in 54 minutes.

Diogo Jota, signed for £41million this summer, continued his sensational form by hitting a hat-trick while fellow forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane also got on the scoresheet in the thumping away win.

The win continued Liverpool’s 100 per cent record in the European elite competition this season and as a result sit top of Group D, five points clear of Ajax.

Since their 7-2 mauling at the hands of Aston Villa at the start of October, the Merseyside giants have not lost in six matches.

Klopp’s side will be looking to extend that unbeaten run when they face Premier League title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.
