Karl Stefanovic’s OK boomer moment: Today host, 45, unleashes on ‘whingeing millennials’ – before newsreader Tracy Vo puts him in his place

Karl Stefanovic may be a member of Generation X, but he’s starting to sound an awful lot like a baby boomer.

On Monday, the Today show host launched into a rant about ‘whingeing millennials’, whom he accused of complaining ‘about everything’.

His tirade was inspired by a Herald Sun article about young Victoria Police recruits moaning about the quality of food at the academy.

Karl, 45, wholeheartedly agreed with comments made by a senior officer, who said that millennials ‘whinge about everything’.

‘I think that’s true,’ he declared.

‘I think you millennials out there just love a whinge, just love to whinge. “Oh, the coffee’s too hot, we can’t get a good burger, we don’t even eat meat burgers anymore, we’ve got to have burger in a lettuce”.’

Angry old man: 'I think you millennials out there just love a whinge!' said Karl, while Allison leaned back and crossed her arms in disapproval

His co-host, Allison Langdon, 40, then turned to the camera and asked: ‘Millennials, do you care what Karl thinks of you?’

‘Just stop whingeing!’ replied an exasperated Karl.

At that point, newsreader Tracy Vo – who is believed to be a mid-thirties millennial – made a rather pointed observation.

‘Who’s having a whinge now, though?’ she asked, to which Karl responded: ‘I’m allowed to because I’m part of the older demographic, Generation Old.’

The whole panel then started laughing and it became clear that Karl’s comments had only been half-serious.

At the age of 45, Karl is part of Gen X: the generation born between 1965 and 1979.

Baby boomers, the generation born between 1944 and 1964, have faced scrutiny in recent years due to their supposedly ‘out of touch’ views.

This has given rise to the popular phrase ‘OK boomer’, which is used to dismiss or mock attitudes stereotypically ascribed to the baby boomer generation.

Millennials were born between 1980 and 1994 and are also known as Generation Y.

Karl is married to a millennial, 35-year-old shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough, which has no doubt given him a valuable insight into the younger generation.
