Australian cricket great and Fox Sports commentator Kerry O’Keeffe left his all-star panel in stitches with a tongue-in-cheek comment about the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 71-year-old was speaking with Shayne Warne and Mark Howard in the Fox Cricket commentary box during the First Test in Adelaide, South Australia, on Saturday.

Australia was going up against India, and later won by eight wickets, when Howard turned the conversation to O’Keeffe and asked the cricket legend to ‘tell Shayne about the lady you met at home.’

O’Keefee began by saying his Fox Cricket duties normally kept him busy and away from home.

Though he had recently been spending a lot more time at his house because of Covid-19 restrictions.

‘When we had to start spending more time at home, I noticed this woman sitting in my lounge room,’ O’Keeffe said.

‘And with Covid … I started to talk to her.’

An amused Warne turned to Howard, slightly confused where the anecdote was going, before O’Keeffe delivered his punchline.

‘And she told me she was my wife!’ O’Keeffe said.

The panel burst into laughter and Warne slapped his knee in a fit of hysterics.

‘And we’re getting on really well!’ O’Keeffe said. ‘There’s a plus to Covid … I met my missus!’

O’Keeffe is a well-known cricket identity who rose to stardom throughout the 1970s.

He played as a spin bowler and was touted as the next great Australian leg spin bowler.

The cricket phenom made his test debut against England in the Ashes series in 1971.

He would play 24 Tests and two One Day Internationals up until 1977.

His larrikin personality and quick wit made him the ideal candidate for the role of commentator, and he has moved between the ABC, Triple M and Fox Sports.

But in 2018, he courted controversy during the third Test of India’s tour of Australia.

He jibed debut opener Mayank Agarwal had scored his maiden first class triple century against ‘canteen staff’ in India.

He was forced to apologise in an open letter following intense blowback.

‘I accept that some fans may not always relate to my sense of humour — but missing the mark on a joke between overs is vastly different to what I’ve been accused of on Twitter and in some sections of the media in recent days,’ it read.
