A curious koala has been seen perusing the red wine aisle at a bottle shop in Adelaide Hills.

The marsupial made its shock visit to Grey’s Inn Hotel in Mount Barker earlier this week, unbothered by the stir it was creating as it meandered through the store.

In a video uploaded to social media, the koala is filmed wandering in before looking up at the shop attendant and then heading straight for the wine section.

The Aussie native may have been officially listed as endangered in 2022 after its populace was decimated in the Black Summer bushfires but the population in Adelaide Hills is on the rise according to the South Australian Wildlife Department.

Many social media users made jokes about the unexpected visitor including Grey’s Inn Hotel who took a clever swipe at the England cricket team after Australia reclaimed the Ashes earlier this week.

‘Could be a relative of Jonny BEARSTOW looking for the ashes,’ they commented.

While another local bottle shop said the koala was simply lost and was a regular of theirs.

‘That’s not his preferred bottle shop, he was in grabbing a couple of six packs from us earlier,’ Urban Pulpit Cellars in Mount Barker replied.
