French star Kristina Mladenovic was handed the biggest fine of Wimbledon so far after an incident with tournament transport involving a family member.

The former world doubles No 1 was docked £5,400 for an episode which followed her surprise exit from the doubles first round last Thursday.

The official explanation was that the punishment was given for an ‘off court’ matter.

According to tournament sources, though, the reason was that a relative became abusive to staff when trying to arrange travel back to the official hotel via the transport desk.

Mladenovic and Hungarian partner were second seeds for the women’s doubles but were beaten 6-1, 6-2 by Zarina Dyas of Kazakhstan and Australia’s Ariana Rodionova.

And there wasn’t any more success in the women’s singles for the Frenchwoman either, as she was beaten 6-4, 6-0 by Elena Rybakina in the opening round.
