Loose Women panel argue Ioan Gruffudd’s wife Alice Evans should have ‘thought of the children’

The Loose Women panel argued Ioan Gruffudd’s wife Alice Evans should have ‘thought of the children’ before airing her dirty laundry on social media.

In today’s episode of the ITV show, Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan and Brenda Edwards debated whether it’s ever OK to air your dirty laundry on social media – with all three admitting they ‘immediately feel for the children.’

It comes after Alice, 49, posted a series of tweets – and subsequently deleted – claiming her husband was leaving the family and she was being ‘gaslit and mentally tortured’.

The actress also accused Ioan, 47, of hacking her Twitter account to delete the original tweets stating he was leaving her and their daughters Ella, 11, and Elsie, seven, because he ‘no longer loves’ her.

However, the couple have vowed to ‘remain committed to their children’ amid their explosive split.

And many viewers were quick to take to Twitter to comment on the question at hand, with one writing: ‘Normalise speaking up about gasslighting men. Women are not in the 1950s having to keep it hush hush loose women putting woman back 50 years.’

A second penned: ‘Surely if she spoke out on social media and the fact he deleted her post shows the kind of man he is? Maybe she was seeking help!’

Ruth Langsford asked agony aunt Coleen that if someone had come to her with that, what would her advice be.

‘My first piece of advice would be to think of the children because they’re in the middle of this and all their friends are probably on social media,’ she explained. ‘Social media when used in the wrong way isn’t productive or helpful, and can be so damaging.

‘Having been through all that myself, the heartbreak and the anger it makes you very reactive.

I would say to anyone, just wait before you react. It’s the instant reaction which later on down the line you’ll say, “I wish I hadn’t done that.” Hold your pride. Your ego has been smashed, just hold it together. You can get that back by being calm and grown up about it.

‘I don’t agree with this social media thing and people going for each other – just pick the phone up.’

Brenda, who claimed to have had a story sold on her a few years back when she was on the X Factor, added: ‘It was the kids that were affected by it. It’s also the children as to why I decided not to retaliate and say anything.

‘It was very hard. If I didn’t have the children I would’ve responded but you just end up playing a game of tennis – it’s back and forward, back and forward.’

Meanwhile, Janet went on to say she feels that Alice should not really have posted that Tweet.

‘My relationships, when we’ve broken up they’ve been colourful, there have been rows,’ she explained. ‘But the exact business that has gone on with me and my partners, O don’t really talk about in interviews. In fact, I don’t talk about my partners in interviews. They’re not half of me, I am me.

‘What I find so laughable in these situations is that the man will often organise a photoshoot. Like with the Dominic West situation, he dragged his wife into the garden – OK she did so willingly, she’s a grown up person – but they put on this front saying their marriage is well and it;s just ludicrous.

She added: ‘When someone’s treated you shabbily, your reaction is to lash out – but what are you achieving by sharing it with the world? You actually diminish yourself a little bit.’

But some viewers who tuned in disagreed and argued Alice was entitled to reaction however she felt best.

‘The poor woman was/is obviously all over the place. Maybe give her a break,’ wrote one, while a second added:  ‘Let people deal with their own mistakes, stop raking through their misery.’

Ioan Gruffudd and wife Alice Evans have been married for 13 years and together for two decades.

A statement released to MailOnline from the couple reads: ‘As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for our family and we remain committed to our children. Thank you for respecting our privacy.’

Alice took to Twitter on Monday to share the ‘sad news’, stating Ioan said he ‘no longer loves her’ and has left her young daughters feeling ‘very sad’.

The original statement was later deleted, with Alice alleging that it was her estranged husband who had taken to her account and removed the message.

She posted another Twitter message, reading: ‘Hi there. I didn’t delete the tweet from a few hours ago about him leaving. He did. From my account…

‘And hell yes when I am being gaslit and mentally tortured then hell yes I will wash my linen in public’, however this tweet was also deleted later on.

After the now-deleted message, she was then criticised by a follower, who penned: ‘Seems like a weird thing to be posting on Twitter’.

In response, in a message which remains on the page [at time of publication], Alice responded writing: ‘Why? I have lost my mind’.

One follower then penned: ‘I did the same when this happened to me. I think it’s how one acknowledges there’s no returning to what existed before. Accepting it by stating it publicly helps you to recognize the impossibility [of] reconciliation.’

She then responded: ‘This is exactly why. And than you. Six months of harrassment: yes/no/maybe. I cannot live like this anymore’.

In the original shock statement, Alice penned: ‘Sad news. My beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years, Ioan Gruffudd, has announced he is to leave his family, starting next week.

‘Me and our young daughters girls are very confused and sad. We haven’t been given a reason except that he ‘no longer loves me’. I’m so sorry.’
