Love Island ‘set to swap sun-soaked villa in Mallorca for a London location’

Love Island is predicted to film their summer series in a London-based location after coronavirus restrictions have halted plans to produce the show in Mallorca.

It was reported last week that the much-loved ITV2 show will kick off in August rather than June, however the location of the set has also now been called into question.

The dating show has been filmed in Mallorca for the past five years and this would mark the first time the summer series has undergone a huge shake-up.

A large number of TV shows have been cancelled amid the global crisis, however producers are apparently keen to go ahead with the channel’s biggest show.

In accordance with travel guidelines which were implemented ahead of lockdown, bosses may decide to shoot the reality show in London or another area of the UK.

The Mirror reported that London is seemed to be the most ‘sensible’ location for the show to shoot, however other contender include the Isle Of Man or Isle Of Wight.

Other picturesque possibilities are believed to include Cornwall or the Scottish Highlands to host the next season.

This comes after it was suggested Love Island UK is set to be released in August and September, a report from Variety claimed on Saturday.

The publication reported that the summer edition of the show would air at a later point in the year compared to its usual June-July time-slot as filming in May had to be postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.

It was claimed that the show may choose to film in the UK rather than abroad to avoid travelling while flights remain grounded due to the global pandemic.

ITV bosses were said to be ‘keen’ to find a way to film the show despite current circumstances, but a source said the future of the summer edition was ‘in the hands of insurance companies’

Speaking to the publication, a senior entertainment executive said: ‘At what point can you ask people who have never met to couple up and get into bed together without having a vaccine or proof you have immunity (from coronavirus)?

‘There are going to be myriad, complex conversations going on. It’s all down to whether you get insurance. Can you insure the show, and will insurance firms say, ‘We need to see that everyone is vaccinated or immunised beforehand.”

MailOnline contacted representatives for the show, who declined to comment.

In March it was reported that Love Island bosses were refusing to cancel the summer series and hope to launch the show a month later in July – despite coronavirus fears.

Producers are still making all the usual preparations for Love Island to go ahead, including approaching potential islanders such as Scottish model Adam Rhazali, 19.

‘All the usual preparations are going ahead. Potential islanders are still being approached as it can take weeks to recruit the right cast.

‘Bosses are desperate for the show to remain in the hearts of viewers after the winter series was tainted with sadness following Caroline Flack’s tragic passing.

‘Final decisions will be made closer to the time but for now, it’s all systems go.’
