Police searching for man caught on surveillance video walking down a New York sidewalk swinging an assault rifle

  • The man was spotted with the assault rifle in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon
  • Surveillance video showed him walking down Webster Avenue at about 3.30pm with the rifle in his left hand 
  • The rifle had a high capacity magazine, according to police 
  • The NYPD said the man sparked ‘fear and alarm’ among those who witnessed him walking alone the sidewalk 

Police are hunting for a man who was captured on video casually walking down a New York City sidewalk with an assault rifle. 

The man was spotted with the black assault rifle in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon. 

Surveillance video showed him walking down Webster Avenue at about 3.30pm with the rifle in his left hand.  

The rifle the man was carrying had a high capacity magazine, according to police.

The NYPD said the man sparked ‘fear and alarm’ among those who witnessed him walking alone the sidewalk. 

The man was last seen walking towards East Gun Hill Road/

There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident, police said. 

Police described the ordeal as ‘reckless endangerment’.

They are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the gun-toting suspect. 

The suspect is described as an adult male with a medium complexion and build. 

Police said he is approximately 6 feet tall and he was last seen wearing a red hooded jacket, red sneakers and blue jeans.
