Margot Robbie reveals the poignant moment she realised she’d ‘made it’ in Hollywood – and what she misses the most about Australia

Margot Robbie is one of Australia’s most successful acting exports.

And on Tuesday, the actress, 29, revealed the moment she realised she had made it as an actress in a virtual visit to the Queensland Children’s Hospital.

She appeared as part of the hospital’s live stream program on Facebook called JuicedTV and answered questions from some of her biggest fans.

The two-time Academy Award nominated star was asked about the moment she realised she had made it as an actor. 

She recalled: ‘One day when I moved to America and I was in Times Square in New York City and there was a giant billboard of a TV show that I was shooting.

‘And I was eight feet tall, on a billboard in Time Square, and I thought, “Wow, I think I’ve made it,”‘ Margot added. 

The show she was likely referring to was her first break in the drama Pan Am – based on Pan American World Airways – where she starred alongside Christina Ricci.

Elsewhere in the chat, Margot, who is based in Los Angeles with her British filmmaker husband Tom Ackerley, revealed what she missed the most about Australia. 

‘I miss the thunderstorms, being a Gold Coast girl we get the best thunderstorms, and different snacks,’ she said.

Margot first rose to fame in Australia, starring on the Channel 10 soap opera Neighbours.

She played Donna Freedman from 2008 to 2011.

Soon after wrapping up on the long-running soap, she moved to the US and was cast in the ABC drama Pan Am, which was cancelled after one season.

Aside from a successful acting career, which includes roles in Suicide Squad and Bombshell, Margot is also a producer and runs a production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, with her husband Tom.
