Rio Ferdinand claims Mason Mount will be furious at being dropped by Thomas Tuchel in his first match in charge of Chelsea against Wolves on Wednesday.

Mount has become an integral player to the Chelsea side over the last season-and-a-half, starting the last 13 Premier League matches as Frank Lampard made him one of the main men at Stamford Bridge.

But Tuchel dropped the England youngster – who was named captain against Luton in the FA Cup on the weekend by the recently sacked Lampard – to the bench for the Premier League clash against Wolves.

Mount was demoted to the bench along with Tammy Abraham and Reece James after Tuchel opted for experience by picking Jorginho, Olivier Giroud and Cesar Azpilicueta as he begun a new era as Chelsea boss.

Ferdinand told BT Sport: ‘He’s gone with experience and people he knows a bit better.

‘I’m sure Mason Mount will be seething, same with Reece James and Christian Pulisic – who he brought through at Dortmund.’

Peter Crouch was also surprised by Tuchel’s decision to drop one of Chelsea’s most in-form players in Mount.

‘It’s a change of philosophy now. He’s dropped Mount and James – how must Mason feel?’ Crouch added.

The decision to sack club legend Lampard has infuriated many Chelsea fans following their first real blip under the inexperienced manager.
